Fernie United - Rep & Development Soccer Do you love soccer? Do you want to play more than twice a week? Come out and join the Development or Rep teams for practices and, if you choose, travel to tournaments. The commitment is 2 more practices a week, with 2-4 tournaments over the spring/summer. Please email the contacts below for more information. FYSA supports a Development/ Rep soccer program structure where players can be involved in the game at a technical degree that is beyond the regular house program. The objective of the Development / REP Program is to encourage further skill development within a positive and challenging teaching environment. FYSA’s goal is to enable both team and tournament experience for U10/U12 (eight aside, small fields) and U14/U16/U18 (11 aside, large field) REP/DEV players. When player/coach commitment and numbers are sufficient, separate "REP" and "DEV" teams may be formed for a division. FYSA’s objective is to provide a playing experience consistent with the skill and commitment level demonstrated by players. Advanced players want to be pushed hard. They are committed to year-round training and are ready for complex, advanced drills at a high tempo. Rep players are expected to train outside of practice. They are expected to take responsibility for their performance. They are expected to commit to a schedule. The rep team will practice together with the objective of entering advanced tier 1 and 2 tournaments. Recreational players, looking for more soccer than House league, deserve an equal opportunity for team and tournament experiences. However, they may not enjoy rep-level competition and risk getting turned off the sport. Our goal is to build player skills and opportunities for success. FYSA is committed to providing structured practices, a team experience, and tournament play for development players. Coaches will expect development players to take training seriously but will emphasize learning techniques at their own pace. Rep/Dev teams will be chosen by coaches who have observed players over many months. There are no tryouts. If there are concerns or questions regarding the player selection process, please contact FYSA President or Vice President. Players new to the program will have an opportunity to play for the Dev team and demonstrate their commitment and advancement to the Rep team. For some tournaments, development players will be asked to fill roster spots on the rep team and vice-versa. Team flexibility is of particular importance for U14 to U18 teams playing full field, 11 a side soccer. Every player, DEV or REP, will be given multiple opportunities to represent the club. PLAYING TIME: The aim of the Dev/Rep program is to allow as many players as possible the opportunity to develop their skills. However, for out-of-town games, it may not always make sense to take all the Development/REP team players to every game. The coach may need to select a “base” team and take other players as availability allows. It is important for parents and players to realize that playing time will be decided upon by the coach and may not be equal for all players. The House League program is designed to ensure equality of playing time. (updates to https://playyon.com/ferniesoccer/showcase/bParH6C0Y/ - approved by FYSA Board on November 12, 2020) PRACTICE TIMES Practice Time & Location will be determined by the coaches. DEVELOPMENT/REP TEAM FEES If your child would like to play on a U10 or U12 DEVELOPMENT or REP Team FYSA requires the player to be registered and play with the FYSA House League. If once the House League Begins and a Player wishes to Join a Development or Rep Team please Contact us at [email protected] to inquire about availability and pricing. U14/U16/U18 Rep Soccer does not require players to participate in House League though it is strongly encouraged! If a player chooses to only play Rep when registering please select the Rep Only Option. Development & Rep Team Prices do not include Tournament Fees. All Development and Rep Teams are subject to sufficient numbers for a team and Coach Availability. Development and Rep Teams Playing Schedule will be organized by the coaches and will be Subject to Registration Numbers/Age Categories and Coach Availability! All Development and Rep Teams Registration will be done through FYSA. Please do not register with KEYSA unless you intend on playing with a Cranbrook Team. DEVELOPMENT/REP LIAISON Markus Glickman is the Development/REP Liaison for FYSA. If you are interested in more information regarding FYSA Development or Rep Teams or would like to get involved in Coaching/Managing a Team please get in touch with Markus, [email protected].
