My Story

Coach Gerald Woolman comes to the Nebraska Nite Hawks very familiar with the world of women’s football. He come to the Nite Hawks in his first year as the Defensive Line Coach. “I firmly cherish history and traditions. I feel that football develops character when a player believes in their teammates, has respect for themselves, other players, officials, the community and fans because character will be all that’s left when the game is over. - Coach Woolman He is currently a Substitute Teacher in the Sioux City School District and holds Iowa State certification as both a Coach and Athletic Director. He earned his MS Sport Management specializing in Sport Marketing with additional graduate studies in Innovative Leadership for Business, and Bachelor’s degrees in both Sport Management and Organizational Studies in Leadership for Business from Grand View University. While a student at Grand View University he worked as a student assistant with both the athletic trainer and strength/conditioning programs. He served as the Phi Beta Lambda State of Iowa Vice-President and he served in the role of Ambassador of Athletic Ministries. During these studies, he served in multiple duties as the Graduate Assistant with Graceland University Athletic Department having roles in game day operations for the soccer and football programs, he also had the pleasure of working as Coach Dudek’s Assistant in Football Operations. Coach Woolman has worked part-time for Prairie Life Fitness. Previously he served as an Assistant Football Coach with the Des Moines Blaze Semi-Professional football organization. While coaching with a former Iowa Barnstormer player, he worked with both the defensive line and linebackers. The Blaze went undefeated and won the 2013 WFA Championship. Before working with the Blaze he volunteered with the Iowa Crush Professional Women’s Football organization. Yet another professional opportunity working with a former NFL Miami Dolphin. Coach Woolman served in multiple roles as the Assistant Defensive Coach, Marketing Assistant and game day operations. He was instrumental in obtaining critical exposure for the Iowa Crush on the local CBS affiliate KCCI Channel 8 during the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Coach Woolman also served as a Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator at the junior high school level. As an athlete, Gerald played football, baseball, hockey, track and was part of the swim team. He has been involved as a member of the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), USA Football, National Federation of High Schools (NFHS), Iowa High School Football Association, and Phi Beta Lambda-Professional Division. Coach Woolman currently holds Iowa State licensure in Coaching Authorization, Activities Authorization, and Substitute Teacher with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and is has USA Football Level 1 Certification. He served several years in the U.S. Army, while stationed at Fort Irwin, California with the National Training Center (NTC). Previously, he spent two years with the Utah Army National Guard 19th Special Forces Unit. Coach Woolman is involved with volunteering for his church, enjoys softball, bowling, and golfing. His favorites are the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Vikings, Utah Jazz and Dallas Stars professional sports.
