HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE COMBINE

First time performance testing? Let’s get you ready! Everything you need to know about the tests - what they are measuring, how to do them properly, tips to perform them better - is all on our page below! You’ll have two trials per test, with 1 failed trial allowed (max of 3 attempts per test). At least 2 minutes of rest will be given between trials to allow you to recover. 

We highly encourage you to review the videos and explanations to familiarize yourself with the drills, and practice them on your own as well. PREPARE yourself for success, and be CONFIDENT in your abilities on testing day!

BROAD JUMP - Measures lower body power 

Instructions:

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart behind the marked line
  • Push your hips back and bend your knees into a half squat, while swinging your arms back to load your jump
  • Jump as far forward and high as possible, swinging your arms forward, sticking the landing on two feet

TIPS 

  • Avoid pausing for too long in the loaded bottom position before you take off for your jump
  • Do not land with your feet too far in front of you to avoid falling or stepping backwards after landing

VERTICAL JUMP - Evaluates lower body power by measuring the flight time of your vertical jump

Instructions:

  • Stand in between the lasers. The laser MUST BE ON YOUR TOES for accurate results 
  • Push your hips back and bend your knees into a half squat, while swinging your arms back to load your jump
  • Jumps as high as you can, landing on both feet in between the lasers

TIPS

  • Avoid pausing for too long in the loaded bottom position before you take off for your jump
  • Do not tuck your legs in the air, this will result in a failed trial

T-TEST  - Measures change of direction ability in forward, backward, and lateral movements 

Instructions: 

  • Stand in between the gates at cone A in a two point stance
  • Begin the test when you are ready, time starts when you leave the gates 
  • Sprint forward to cone B, touching the base of the cone
  • While facing forward and not crossing your feet, shuffle 5 yards to cone C, touching the base of the cone with your left hand, then 10 yards to cone D, touching the base of the cone with your right hand, then back to Cone B, touching the base of the cone 
  • Backpedal from cone B through the gates at cone A 
  • Time stops when you cross the gates at cone A
  • Test will be repeated starting the shuffle in the opposite direction 

TIPS

  • Be sure to touch the cones to avoid failing the trial
  • Do not open your hips in the direction you're shuffling, keep your hips facing forward
  • While backpedaling, do not lean back, keep your chest upright to avoid falling backwards
