Futsal is sometimes referred to as court soccer, and is played indoors or outdoors on a hard court. The rules, court and team size emphasize creativity, control and passing in tight spaces; making this an ideal off-season training experience for younger soccer players. The fundamental skills used in futsal and traditional soccer are the same. We still try to score more goals than the other team, there are still fouls and handballs. A player needs to have confidence on the ball, movement off of it and the vision to understand where he/she should be at a given moment. Because of the smaller court size, smaller team size and shorter games, participants experience these things at a higher tempo during futsal than they would playing soccer. Our goal is to provide quality instruction and ample free-play for young players. A weekly two-hour session allows us to make this a positive experience for kids while minimizing the commitment busy families have to make. And because we’re local, there’s no need to fight through traffic to get here. One more big plus here in Oregon… we’re indoors, so we don’t get rained on☺ Key Technical Aspects of Futsal: • Unlike indoor soccer, the boundaries are delineated by lines, not walls. • Two teams of five (including a goalie) are on the court for two 20 minute halves. We will use running time. • Substitutions are unlimited, and on the fly (kind of like hockey). 12 members maximum to a team. • There are no throw-ins. Instead, the ball gets passed in from touch (the line) within 4-5 seconds. Exceeding the time gives possession to the opposing team. • There are no goal kicks. The goalie will throw the ball in within 4-5 seconds. • If a red-card is given, the player must leave the area and their team will play down a man for 2 minutes or until the other team scores a goal, whichever is shorter. Once either occurs, the team may return a player (other than the one sent off) to the field of play and return to full strength.

As a youth coach, one of the very first things I tell every parent and every player on every team is that our focus is on growth and engagement, not winning games. Players have to have a foundation to grow on if they dream to be successful as they get older. Scoring the most goals on your third grade rec team isn't going to get you into the record books, onto a highschool team, into college or into the pros. Being able to possess the ball, understand the game, make appropriate decisions, create opportunities and succeed as a team will. No matter what the audience, we focus first on individual skills, then passing and receiving, defense and attack as a team and finally finishing.

About Us

Providing soccer and futsal leagues, camps and specialized training sessions to all ages in Newberg and surrounding areas.  Founded by a life-long volunteer coach and parent, we seek to bridge the gap between local recreational leagues and highly competitive competition.

As parents of three, we realize that there never seems to be enough time in the week to get anything done.  As coaches, we recognize the added commitment needed to plan lessons and keep kids engaged and learning.  As organizers, we understand the costs of equipment and the difficulty of finding facilities.  That is why we created Chehalem FC.
