Leadership Opportunities: Team Captains and Student Delegates
"Good Players Inspire Themselves. Great Players Inspire Others."
We know that all schools in the Global Education City area want their students to be good leaders. We also know that GEC Students also want to be leaders. Well, good news! GBC is here to give the opportunity.
Team Captains

According to the GBC organization, team captains are necessary and required for every single team participating in the GBC. The GBC believes that a team cannot function without a powerful and open-minded leader.
The 3 C's to Become a Captain
To become a team captain, students must learn what it takes to obtain the title. We all know that being a team captain is quite an honor. Therefore, team captain positions are usually given to one or two people who have participated in the team for many years with a strong baseball IQ and a bright personality. However, most importantly, a team captain must be qualified to be the 3 C's.
- Caring
- Courageous
- Consistent
Every role and many decisions made by the team captain are based on the fundamental 3 C's. Also, the team captain is always on duty regardless of whether they are on the field or
off the field. Some duties off the field include representing the school team in the
GBC Student Meetings and
taking care of the GBC Playyon website's team pages.
How Do I Become a Captain?
Usually, team captains are chosen by the team head coach. The head coach can choose(or he can put it to a vote) up to 2 people to be captains. In the case of there being 2 captains, they will be managing players in different positions(i.e. Infield&Battery Captain, Outfield Captain). After the captain is appointed, the head coach must send the newly appointed captain's contact information to the GBC Student Delegates for them to be
officially on duty.
Student Delegates

The GBC Student Delegates also participate and are in charge of the
GBC Student Meetings but they do not directly represent the school they belong in. They are actually a part of the
GBC Student Branch Government. In GEC Baseball Classic, there are two governing branches: The Teacher Branch and the Student Branch. Teacher Delegates generally take care of safety issues, financing, scheduling, etc. and Student Delegates take care of uniform management, event organizations, future planning, recruitment, public relations, special training help, and many more. Plus, the student delegates may act as a student voice to the teaching branch if any issues are given.
Which Roles are Different from Team Captains?
Student Delegates are why GBC Exists in the first place. GBC is a
student-led non-profit organization that provides interscholastic baseball tournaments and individual support.
The Student Delegates are the people who run the GEC Baseball Classic.GBC Student Delegates must listen to team captains who represent the individual teams and players. They must be representing student as a whole, and not for their own schools they belong in. This underlines the core value of the GBC organization of being
Fair and Square.
GBC Student Delegates, as head of recruitment and public relations, also take care of social media accounts and GBC news articles. They also post schedules, match results, game report and many more data when they are on and off the field.
How Do I Become a Student Delegate?
When a Student Delegate is needed, a registration is posted on the GBC Playyon website and players are encouraged to apply for the position. Although the Student Delegate positions are not "first come, first served", players are encouraged to apply fast as spaces fill quickly.
Usually, the GBC tries to maintain its student delegation population by a maximum of 8 seat total, and usually around 2 seats per team. However, students are not entirely chosen by which team they belong, but by their ability to perform their tasks fairly. A Student Delegate's guaranteed term is 1 season(Fall or Spring), with no term limits. A Student Delegate may be impeached or terminated if job performances are non-satisfactory or in the cases where they do not meet the basic requirements stated below.
To apply for a position as a Student Delegate you must...
- Be a participating player in the GBC in one of the teams
- Have adequate knowledge in the field of baseball
- Not currently in the position of a team captain or any GBC-related position
- Demonstrate the passion and support of a student-led organization
- Meet English language requirements; Be able to communicate in English
Team Captain or Student Delegate, I Can't Choose!

You may want to participate in both rewarding opportunities, but which one should you choose? Obviously, you can't pick both. Here are some suggestions.
Q: Are you a caring and friendly baseball-pro? Are you close with everyone on the team?
A: Yes? Then you are a team captain candidate. Team captains may be chosen just by demonstrating their personalities.
Q: Are you a hard-working, dedicated player who also wants to be part of a non-profit?
A: Yes? Then you are a student delegate candidate. Student delegates maintain the motto of being
"fair and square" by demonstrating their professionalism.
We hope to see many players being engaged in leadership opportunities and events provided by GBC. Please check the registration page at our Playyon site for student delegate opportunities.
