Coach John Quimby has been coaching since 1982. He has over 14 years of HS coaching experience. Coach Quimby has 17 years of premier level club coaching experience that also includes 3 years of ODP Select coaching. Coach Quimby was the co-founder of the Niskayuna Soccer Club. He was also a collegiate player for SUNY Brockport and Siena. For the past 3 years Coach Quimby's training and coaching philosophy has resulted in all of Nirvana North players with a desirel to play soccer in college meeting their goal.
Brennan Colby: Head Coach U14s
Coach Colby has an extensive player background. He played for some of the top premier clubs in the Capital District, Black Watch, New York Elite FC and the Alley Cats. Coach Colby continued his soccer at Susquehanna University. Coach Colby has provided training at youth soccer camps for the past 10 years. His player experience coupled with his youth soccer training will provide the U14s with the skills and tactical training they will need to be successful.
Brian Dineen: Head Coach U12s
Coach Dineen has a breadth of experience of coaching soccer from High School boys to youth girls soccer. His soccer experience combined with his role has an educator (Elementary School Principal and currently the K-12 District Administrator for North Colonie) will compliment the Nirvana philosophy. As the Cobleskill HS boys coach, he led them to 3 Colonial Championships, Sectional Finalist, and was twice the finalist for Class B Coach of the Year.
Coach Brian Retersdorf: Goalie Coach
Coach Brian Retersdorf is heading into his ninth season as the Head Varsity Girls’ soccer coach at Ballston Spa High School. Coach Brian has had coaching stints with several area clubs which include a trip to the US Youth Soccer Region I tournament in West Virginia. He is currently the Technical Director and Girls’ Director of Coaching for the Ballston Spa Soccer Club (BSSC) providing team trainings for the U8-U17 programs as well as goalkeeper training for BSSC and Nirvana North FC. He holds a Coerver Youth Diploma in NY and NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diplomas 1 and 2. His resume also includes refereeing for the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) and Eastern Board of Approved Soccer Officials Association (EBASOA).
Mentor Program
Nirvana North assigns a college player as mentor for age group. These former Nirvana North players will attend practices and events when on college breaks. They will also be able for questions and guidance throughout the year. The mentors will help with providing experiences on their college search, recruiting process, college life, and of course soccer. This year’s mentors are:
Hanna Raymond. Hanna was a Nirvana North Co-Captain and one of the original members of Nirvana North. She played primarily as a defender, however, she routinely found herself in the Nirvana’s offense third shortly after stripping the ball from a forward.. Hanna is attending and playing soccer at Union College.
Ava Schlesinger: Ava was one of the original members of Nirvana North and she is a mid-fielder. However, Ava would play any field position, played it well, when asked. Ava is attending and playing soccer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Katrina Colby: Katrina played for Nirvana North for 2 years. As a mid-fielder Katrina was known for her ability to distribute the ball that led to scoring opportunities. Katrina is attending and playing soccer at Hamilton College.
Stephanie Burkhammer: Stephanie was a Nirvana North Co-Captain for 3 seasons and one of the original members of Nirvana North. Stephanie’s fast physical play, and the ability to appear from nowhere to block a shot resulted in opponents avoiding this defender. Stephanie is attending and playing soccer at Castleton University.
Marissa Quimby: Marissa was a Nirvana North Co-Captain for 2 years and one of the original members of Nirvana North. As the goalkeeper for Nirvana’s inaugural season Marissa was the team leader on and off the field. Marissa only gave up 6 goals contributing to the team going 27-7-3 in the inaugural outdoor season. Marissa is attending and playing soccer at Genesseo.
